Planning
The planning folder contains:
- the Teachers' Overview Word file giving a brief introduction to each double-page unit in the text, the student learning objectives for that unit, and the relevant relevant practical activities. The final column lists useful resources from other texts including Fifth Form Science Resources and the New House Pathfinders Year 11 Science book.
- background notes for teachers discuss tricky points and provide web links for further study.
Images
The images folder contains
- over 450 images from New Directions in Science for you to use in producing your own resources.
- a photo story showing a visit to the Taylor's Lime Works near Palmerston.
- a PowerPoint presentation showing photographs from the lunar eclipse in July 2000.
Practical
The practical folder contains:
- a technician's guide to the practicals in the text book.
- model answers to all questions in the text book practicals, with sample results.
- an electronic copy of Core Practicals for Year 11 Science. Most of the practicals from this book have since been included in the New Directions in Science Workbook.
- a technician's guide and model answers for Core Practicals for Year 11 Science
Tests etc
This folder contains:
- Test questions for each strand of the curriculum. These are original exam-style questions you can use for assessment or as class exercises. A separate Answer file provides fully-worked answers with A, M, E guidelines.
- Revision crosswords, one for each Achievement Standard.
- A couple of Worksheets covering material that wouldn't fit in elsewhere.
- A Key Facts booklet for Y11 Science, suitable for printing off and folding into an A6 booklet.
- A copy of the periodic table of elements suitable for giving to students for exams.
- A set of 35 short Quizzes, mostly covering the facts listed in the Key Facts booklet.
- An extract from an earlier edition of the New Directions in Science Workbook covering questions in Organic Chemistry, written when this material was required for Year 11 Science. These activities are suitable for students doing the US on Fuels.
